CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College softball team swept Buena Vista in its final regular season doubleheader at Clark Field Tuesday, defeating the Beavers 8-0 and 12-5 on 2025 senior day. The Kohawks celebrated their senior class in style, totaling 20 runs and 21 hits across the two games.
Abbie White pitched a one-hit shutout in the opener, backing up her offense that scored eight runs on 13 hits.
Taylor Drayfahl had a team-high three RBI in the opener, being joined by
Jessica Meisinger who drove home two.
Ruby Olson, Marisa Vodicka and
Nicole Wagner picked up the remaining RBI for Coe in the win, helping clinch the victory in six innings. The Kohawk offense used the long ball to strike in game two, getting a game-tying homer from Drayfahl in the second inning and game-sealing homer from Vodicka in the bottom of the sixth. Drayfahl had four more RBI in the game, bringing her daily total to seven while Vodicka drove home three.
Hadyn Shoots and
Maggie Strupp also had single RBI in the contest, supporting
Natalie Hitt who pitched five innings while allowing one earned run en route to her seventh win of the year.
GAME ONE
COE 8 - BVU 0 - 6 INNINGS
Game Facts
- Coe got things started in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three times with two outs to go in front. Vodicka and Drayfahl picked up RBI in back-to-back at-bats with Vodicka driving home the opening run with a double before Drayfahl's two-run two-bagger. The Kohawks added another run in the second, getting a one-out single from Wagner as she drove home Meisinger who singled to lead off. The hosts made it 7-0 in the bottom of the third, scoring the opening run on a defensive miscue before Meisinger plated two with a single up the middle. Coe went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings but ended the game for White in the sixth. White, who allowed just one hit in a complete game effort, saw her offense finish the job in the sixth as Drayfahl delivered the game-winning single with the bases loaded, scoring Addie Menke for 8-0.
GAME TWO
COE 12 - BVU 5
Game Facts
- Buena Vista responded with an early lead in game two, scoring twice in the opening inning with an RBI triple and a productive groundout. Coe responded in the second inning, taking the lead with three runs on two hits and one Beaver error. Vodicka singled with one out and was immediately followed by Drayfahl who belted a two-run shot to center to tie the game. Strupp put a ball in play later in the inning as a hard hit grounder snuck under an infielder's glove allowing Haley Sanders to score the go-ahead run. Coe broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five times with three hits including RBI knocks from Shoots and Strupp as well as a sacrifice fly from Drayfahl. BVU cut the lead with a run in the fourth, scoring with a two-out single to make it 8-3. Coe pulled a pair of runs back in the bottom of the inning, getting back-to-back sacrifice flies to make it 10-3 before stranding the bases loaded. Buena Vista stayed alive in the fifth, scoring twice with a groundout and passed ball as the Beavers made it 10-5. The Kohawks put the icing on the cake in the bottom of the sixth, getting a towering, two-run shot from Vodicka as the junior launched her eighth homer of the season for 12-5.
