DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Coe College volleyball team fell in its American Rivers Conference Opener Wednesday evening at Dubuque, suffering a 3-0 defeat to the Spartans. The Spartans raced out to an early lead in the match, taking a 25-17 decision in the first set as the hosts hit .286 in the frame and committed just three errors. UD continued to click in the second set, responding from an early Coe run to claim the second set 25-22. The hosts completed the sweep in the third set with another strong performance, committing only four attacking errors en route to a 25-19 clinching victory.
Kelsey Hansel led Coe's attacking effort in the defeat, racking up 13 kills while
Maggie Furlong (9) and
Maddie Harris (8) were close behind.

- Coe led 10-9 early in the first set but a 5-0 run from UD gave the hosts the first real advantage. The Kohawks failed to get back into the frame, trading points with the Spartans over the next few points before the hosts took the opener. The Kohawks jumped out to a big 12-4 lead in the second set, getting two kills from Tessa Casebolt, Harris and Hansel to gain the advantage. UD quickly responded, scoring 10 of the next 11 points to take a 14-13 lead and flip the switch. Coe answered with three points of their own but Dubuque used a four-point string at the end of the set to secure a 2-0 lead. UD used the momentum and jumped to an immediate 10-1 lead in the final set, building a large lead before a timeout. Coe fought back and got within four at 21-17 but the Spartans hung on for the sweep, taking the final set 25-19.
