CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over Crown College Saturday in its 2025 home opener. The Kohawks got a perfect start to the match, scoring twice in the first 17 minutes as
Ian Kearney bagged a pair of early goals. Kearney, who became the second-leading scorer in program history, scored the first after a pinpoint pass from
Tinashe Manyanga in the 15th minute. Kearney doubled his total in the 17th minute, this time pouncing on a misplayed pass before dancing around the keeper and burying in an open net. Coe, which allowed seven Crown shots in the first half, locked down the Polars in the second, holding the visitors without a shot for the final 45 minutes. The Kohawks searched for the hammer blow in the second half but had seven shots on goal saved to keep it 2-0.
GAME FACTS
COE 2 - CROWN 0
- Coe's first goal came after a slow start to the game for both teams. Manyanga picked out Kearney from an advanced midfield position with a well-weighted pass. The senior from Las Vegas made no mistakes, beating the keeper and the last man before scoring easily. Sam Sanchez started the second goal for the Kohawks, intercepting a pass on the right flank before playing a linking pass to Kearney. Kearney danced around the keeper yet again and slotted it into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0. The Kohawks remained dominant for the final 70-plus minutes of action, going up a man in the 44th minute after a red card was shown to the Polars. Despite not scoring in the second 45, Coe recorded 11 shots in the period and had seven shots on target.
