CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College Softball team picked up an American Rivers Conference split against Loras Monday afternoon at Clark Field, falling 8-0 in game one before a 7-0 bounce-back victory in game two. The Kohawks struggled in game one, trailing immediately as the Duhawks scored three times in the first inning before adding four in the third inning. The visitors extended the lead to eight in the top of the fourth and shut Coe down for the remainder of the game, retiring Coe in order in the final two innings. It was a solid response by the Kohawks in game two as
Natalie Hitt tossed a complete-game shutout while scattering 10 Duhawk hits. Her offense gave her an early lead with two in the second inning as an RBI single from
Marisa Vodicka and a run on a passed ball made it 2-0. Hitt held the lead until her offense added key insurance in the sixth, plating five runs in the bottom of the inning to put Loras away. The Kohawks had just five hits in the win but drew eight walks and drove in six runs as Hitt earned her ninth win of 2026.
GAME ONE
LORAS 8 - COE 0 - FIVE INNINGS
- The Duhawks opened the scoring in the top of the third, using three straight two-out hits for the early lead. Loras took the lead with a one-run double and later capped the big inning with a two-run homer. The visitors added four in the third inning, using two hits and a pair of defensive miscues from Coe to take control. Loras made it eight in the fourth inning, getting a hit batter and a walk before a bunt-single plated a runner. The Kohawks were unable to threaten in the final two at-bats, going down 1, 2, 3 in the fourth and fifth innings as Loras claimed the first game by run-rule.
GAME TWO
COE 7 - LORAS 0
- Hitt singled with one out in the second and moved to second on a walk from Keirah Wiseman. Vodicka opened the scoring two batters later, driving home Hitt with a two-out single for 1-0. Wiseman scamepered home in the following at-bat, crossing the plate after a passed ball. Hitt handled the lead with class, working around numerous base runners across the next handful of innings. She did her best work immediately after Coe's two-run inning, leaving runners on all three bags as she got a looping line out to end the frame. The Kohawk offense finally added more insurance for Hitt in the sixth, plating five on just two hits. A fielder's choice RBI for Haley Sanders made it 3-0 before a bases-loaded walk from Brooke Peterman pushed it to 4-0. Grace McCarty drew another free pass two batters later for 5-0 before a two-run double from Maddie Harris broke it open at 7-0. Hitt ran into some trouble when closing the door in the seventh, putting two runners on before a strikeout and a flyout secured the split.
