Men’s Soccer Falls to Simpson on Saturday Evening

Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team dropped an American Rivers Conference match to Simpson on Saturday evening, falling 2-0 to the Storm. Simpson jumped out to an early lead scoring two goals within the first 25 minutes of action and managed to thwart the Kohawk chances to keep the clean sheet. The loss drops the Kohawks to 1-13-3 overall and 0-5-2 in the American Rivers Conference while Simpson improves to 6-6-2 on the year and 4-2-1 in the league.

Match Facts:
  • Simpson had a strong start to the match, registering three shots in the opening 18 minutes of action but Maxwell Twight came up with a pair of important saves to keep the Storm off the board. 
  • The visitors broke the deadlock in the 21st minute after a set piece was delivered into the box as Espoire Nkomezi corralled the loose ball and fired a shot past the Kohawk keeper to put Simpson up 1-0. The Storm quickly added to their lead just over a minute later, as they scored from just outside the 18 to put Simpson up 2-0.
  • Coe had three shots in the final 15 minutes of the first half as attempts from Brayden Koch and Jay Ndayisenga missed the target while a shot on target from Lucas Huitink was saved by the Simpson keeper to keep the score 2-0 at the half. 
  • The Kohawks were on the front foot in the start of the second half, registering a pair of shots in the first five-plus minutes but an attempt on target from Koch was saved again. Simpson began to grow into the second period, controlling possession while tallying four shots in a 12-minute span. 
Up next: The Kohawks are back on the pitch on Tuesday, October 26 when they travel to Loras for an A-R-C matchup at 7:30 PM.
