CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team turned in a solid effort on Tuesday evening but suffered a 1-0 defeat to (RV) Wartburg at Clark Field. The Kohawks and Knights played a scoreless opening half during which neither team created any threatening scoring chances. Coe came out flying in the second half, creating an early chance in the period but a key save kept the match scoreless. Wartburg scored the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute, taking advantage of a transition opportunity to secure the victory. The loss drops Coe to 1-12-1 overall and 0-5 in the A-R-C while Wartburg improves to 6-1-6 and 2-0-3 in the league.

- Wartburg created a pair of chances inside the opening 10 minutes, forcing a pair of saves from Max Twight but the sophomore was up to the challenge and kept it scoreless. Coe grew into the half, keeping the visitors at a distance while linking some passes together. The Kohawks had a trio of opportunities late in the period, getting shot attempts from Ian Kearney, Josue Flores-Lopez and Ian Kearney but the hosts were unable to find the opener.
- Coe was on the front foot to start the second half, dominating the possession while creating the best scoring chance of the game in the 52nd minute. Jay Ndayisenga picked up a lose ball in the midfield and beat a few defenders before squaring a pass to Kevin Williams who put an effort on target but was unable to beat the keeper. Wartburg manufactured the next big chance in the 59th, creating a shooting opportunity in the box but an excellent save from Twight kept the game scoreless. After a near 15-minute lul in the action Coe had another opportunity on goal, getting a strike from Kuniaki Ito which was saved by a diving effort.
- Wartburg scored against the run of play under five minutes after Ito's shot. The Knights used a transition opportunity to take the lead, connecting a pass from the midfield for a one-on-one opportunity. Coe continued to battle despite the late goal, creating a few more scoring chances before the final whistle but the hosts could not locate an equalizer.
Up next: The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, hosting Buena Vista on Saturday, October 15. The game, which is on homecoming weekend, will also feature a senior day ceremony for the men and women.
