Men’s Soccer Scores Three Times in Shutout Victory over Buena Vista

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Buena Vista on Saturday evening at Clark Field. The Kohawks put together a dominant 90 minutes on Homecoming Saturday, holding the Beavers without a shot in the match while racking up 12 attempts and seven on target. All three of the Kohawk goals came in the opening 45 minutes but the pressure continued in the second half as Coe recorded another six shots in the period. The victory moves Coe to 2-12-1 overall and 1-5 in the A-R-C while Buena Vista falls to 0-12-2 and 0-5 in the league.

GAME FACTS:
COE 3 - BUENA VISTA 0
  • Coe brought the pressure to the visitors from the opening whistle, scoring within the first seven minutes. The goal came after a swift-moving attack in which Kevin Williams generated a scoring chance but he fired a shot off the cross bar. The ensuing rebound dropped just in front of Jay Ndayisenga who was crashing inside the six before heading home the goal.
  • Coe quickly added to its lead under two minutes later, taking advantage of a second ball inside the box. Carter Collis delivered a corned into the area which was headed back in front by Blake Jungman. Alan Losoya then acrobatically laced a shot with his right foot in the bottom right corner, giving Coe a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Kohawks added one more goal before the break, scoring in the 44th minute to make it 3-0. Brayden Koch quickly restarted the game with a throw in on the far sideline and found Kuniaki Ito who dissected the Beaver defense with a pass into space. Juan Suarez ran onto the pass and beat the keeper with a few touches before tapping home the third goal of the half.
  • Coe continued to dominate in the final 45 minutes of the match, registering an additional six attempts in the period. Ndayisenga had another shot saved in the 57th minute while freshman Brady Pechmann tested the keeper less than five minutes later. The Kohawks had a trio of chances in the final ten minutes to make it 4-0 but shots from Ndayisenga, Ito and Colton Wever all came up empty as the scoreline ended 3-0 in favor of the Kohawks.
Up next: The Kohawks return to action on Tuesday, October 19 for their final regular season home match of 2022, hosting Loras at 7:30 PM.
