ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Coe College men's soccer team earned its first point of the 2022 season on Sunday night, securing a 2-2 draw against non-conference foe Augustana College. The Kohawks took an early lead in the match, scoring from the spot in the 12th minute. The goal, which was scored by freshman
Sam Sanchez, gave Coe a 1-0 advantage which the visitors held for the remainder of the opening period. Augustana battled back in the second half, quickly tying the game less than 15 minutes into the frame. Coe answered immediately after the equalizer, regaining the lead just over one minute later as
Ian Kearney made it 2-1. The Vikings clawed back late in the game, finding the game-leveling goal in the 88th minute as the hosts converted from the spot. The result moves Coe and Augustana to 0-1-1 overall.

- The Kohawks were put under pressure early in the game but keeper Jr. Holland made a save on Augustana's first attempt on target. Just over two minutes later, Sanchez gave Coe the lead on his first collegiate goal. Coe totaled four more shots in the final minutes of the first half, forcing a trio of saves from the Augustana keeper.
- It was a slower start to the second period but the hosts got a pair of early shots and one corner kick. Coe grew into the period, getting back-to-back corner kicks in a three-minute span but Augustana tied the game just two minutes later. Ian Kearney restored Coe's less than two minutes later, registering his first collegiate goal for the Kohawks.
- Coe hung on for nearly the remainder of the half but Augustana earned a penalty with three minutes left in the game. The hosts took full advantage of the late chance, scoring from the spot to even the game. The Kohawks had three more chances in the final two-plus of the game but all three shot attempts were saved by the Augie keeper as the game ended in a draw.
Up next: The Kohawks will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 10 when they travel to Benedictine for a non-conference match at 2 pm.
