CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Benedictine on Sunday afternoon at Clark Field. The Eagles opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game, notching the opener against the run of play. The Kohawks battled back during the remainder of the opening period and finally tied the match in the 38th minute, getting a goal from
Ian Kearney who tied the game at one. Benedictine struck one more time before the expiration of the first half, regaining the lead on a goal with less than two minutes to play in the period. Coe piled on pressure to begin the second half, registering numerous shot attempts while earning a handful of corners in the opening 15 minutes. The game was altered in the 68th minute when Coe was sent down to 10 men after a denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity. The Eagles would add another goal to their total in the 81st minute, extending their lead to two. Coe continued to press and got one back in the 86th minute on a goal from
Jonathan Williams but Benedictine saw out the final few minutes and locked down the win.

GAME FACTS
- Benedictine scored with the game's first shot attempt, completing a multi-pass move that resulted in the opening goal. Coe battled back over the next few minutes, getting shot attempts from Kearney who forced a good save less than three minutes after the goal.
- The Kohawks opener came from solid pressing from the attack and midfield as James Napieralski forced a turnover in the attacking third. Napieralski then rolled a pass into Kearney's feet who got around his man and beat the keeper with a low strike from outside the box.
- The Eagles regained the lead just before the end of the half, scoring their second goal on a long ball into the box was controlled and fired into the Kohawk goal. Cooper Peddicord nearly tied the game at the end of the half, striking the crossbar from nearly 30 yards out as time expired.
- The Kohawks were on top in the beginning of the second half, registering five shots in the first 15 minutes. Kearney had the best chance during the run, forcing another solid save in the 55th minute. Coe's luck changed in the 69th when Trenton Kiesel was shown a straight red card after holding back a Benedictine attacker who was through on goal.
- The visitors all but locked up the victory in the 81st minute, extending their lead to two with a solo effort from Nick Soto. The Kohawks got one back in the 86th minute, hitting the Eagles with a quick moving attack that resulted in a goal for Williams after assists from Sam Sanchez and Juan Suarez. Coe had one final chance in the 88th minute as Suarez put a shot attempt on goal but again the Eagles keeper stood tall and made the save.
Up next: Coe is back in action tomorrow evening for another non-conference match, hosting Monmouth College at Clark Field at 7 PM.
