JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Coe College men's soccer team suffered a 5-2 defeat to Illinois College on Saturday evening. The Kohawks conceded early in the match, allowing two goals inside the first eight minutes including a penalty to open the match. The Blue Boys added two more goals before the 20-minute mark, extending the lead to 4-0. Coe pulled a goal back in the 38th minute as
James Napieralski got the Kohawks back into the match with plenty of time to play. The visitors got another in the 64th minute as
Ian Kearney found the back of the net. The hosts put the game away for good in the 82nd minute, restoring a three-goal advantage which was enough to see over the line.

- The hosts quickly jumped in front, scoring from the penalty spot in the seventh minute. The lead doubled just over a minute later as Illinois College made it 2-0, scoring from a team move with a pair of passes before the goal. Illinois College scored two more goals before 20 minutes ticked off the clock as Aidan Gowin netted his second and third of the game in the 12th and 20th minute. Napieralski brought life back into the game in the 38th minute for the Kohawks, scoring with the fifth shot of the match. Coe pulled another back early in the second half, making it a two-goal game as Kearney scored for the fifth time in 2024. Illinois College regained control of the match and put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute, scoring a fifth to restore a three-goal advantage.
