GRINNELL, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team picked up a point in its 2025 season opener at Grinnell College Friday, playing to a 2-2 draw with the Pioneers. The Kohawks fell behind early in the second half after both teams failed to record a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes. Grinnell scored in the 48th minute but Coe responded as
Brandon Kostelny opened his account following a strong run and square ball from
Angel Panora-Garcia into the box. The Pioneers restored their lead from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute however Coe refused to give in, finding the equalizer in the 89th minute.
Ian Kearney scored his 26th career goal to claim the point for Coe, capping off a quick attacking move that began with a run from
Talon Sargent and a patiently-worked pass from
Kevin Williams.

- It was fairly level playing early in the game despite an early shot attempt from the Pioneers in the third minute. The teams traded corners during the next phase of play before Coe's first shot from Kostelny in the 36th minute. The hosts opening goal came in the 48th minute from a loose pass from the Kohawks. The Pioneers quickly switched the field and later played a pass into the box for an easy tap in. Kostelny got on the score sheet just over two minutes later, polishing off a tantalizing pass from Panora-Garcia after he drove to the byline. Grinnell was awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute after a mistimed tackle in the box and retook the lead from the spot. Coe continued to search for an equalizing goal and finally paid it off in the 89th minute. Alan Losoya started the game-tying move with a long ball into the channel for Sargent who used his pace to beat the defender. After sprinting into the box, Sargent laid it across the six-yard box for Williams who patiently squared it to Kearney for the tying strike. Kearney's goal moves him into a tie for second place on Coe's career goals list, tying Chris Baasten with 26. A senior from Las Vegas, Kearney is 10 goals shy of tying Brandon Hronec's program leading 36.
