CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team picked up a non-conference victory at Clark Field on Saturday evening, defeating the visiting Hamline University Pipers 4-1. The Kohawks and Pipers traded chances in a scoreless first half, with the visitors creating the best chance of the period. Coe jumped ahead moments into the first half, getting the opening goal from
Jase Havlik, who tapped home from close range after solid build-up from
Nolan Loftin and
Jonah Lasselle. Hamline quickly leveled the game from a set piece, but Loftin got on the scoresheet minutes later to restore the lead for good. Loftin scored out of the blue, picking up a long ball on the right wing before beating a handful of men and the keeper. Lasselle picked up his second goal-scoring contribution minutes later as Havlik floated a ball across the pitch toward the forward before Lasselle struck near post for 3-1.
Brandon Kostelny wrapped up the scoring for Coe in the 57th minute after Hamline's keeper spilled an attempted cross. Kostelny remained cool and all in one motion, controlled the ball with his left foot, turned, and scuffed a shot past the goal line.

GAME FACTS
- Coe and Hamline each had chances in the opening half, but the Pipers had the best chance. Hamline had a forward through on goal before William Shaw forced the attacker out wide. The Kohawk keeper was out of his net momentarily and an attempted centering pass was crucially cut out by the Coe defense to keep the game scoreless. The Kohawks opened the scoring early in the second, picking up a misplayed pass in the midfield before a string of passes sent Laselle down the wing. A cross came into Havlik's feet, and a mishit shot attempt squeaked through the legs of the keeper for 1-0. Hamline immediately leveled the game on its first chance of the second half, scoring from a free kick just outside Coe's penalty area to make it 1-1. A bit of individual brilliance produced the second goal for Coe as Loftin picked up a pass on the right wing and then beat three defenders before lashing a shot across the goal to beat the keeper for 2-1. The Kohawks made it 3-1 seconds later as Havlik floated a long ball to Laselle on the far post, and Laselle did the rest, picking out the near post and beating the keeper to make it 3-1. Coe tallied again in the 57th minute, recycling a corner to James Napieralski, who played a ball into the box. The Hamline keeper went to catch the cross but spilled the ball to Kostelny, who calmly took the ball down and finished with his left foot.
