Hall of Fame
Al Dimond, Class of 1957, was only 5 feet, 10 inches tall, but he was a giant on the Coe basketball and football teams. He was the number one playmaker and number three scorer on Coe's Midwest Conference championship basketball team in 1956. Like a true champion, Al Dimond had the best night of his career in a championship-deciding game against St. Olaf. He contributed 19 points to Coe's one-point victory. That Coe team set five new scoring records and won 20 games, more than any previous team, until the undefeated teams of the 1970s. Al Dimond was also a valuable member of the Coe gridiron squad, including the championship team of 1955. Altogether Dimond won six varsity letters at Coe. After graduation, Al Dimond was a navigator in the Air Force. He played basketball on Air Force base teams and did considerable officiating in Texas while in service. In June, 1965, Al Dimond was killed while serving with the Air Force in Vietnam. In recognition of this young man's outstanding contributions as an athlete, sportsman, and serviceman, I consider it an honor to present him for induction into the Kohawk Athletic Hall of Fame posthumously.
