The Athletic Hall of Fame at Coe is enhanced by the induction of an illustrious son of the college, Wendall H. Schrader. He has been an outstanding athlete, a coach of championship teams, and in later years a national leader in the field of camping and recreation. As an undergraduate, Schrader lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. In football, he was a standout under Coach Moray Eby, lettering in all three upper-class years. He was all-conference and all-state, and captain of the all-conference team. In his senior year, no conference team scored on Coe, and only the University of Illinois crossed the Coe goal line all year. In the Notre Dame game, the Irish lost yardage around Schrader's end. He played every minute of the game, going both ways. Following the game, the opposing coach came to the Coe dressing room to congratulate Schrader for his outstanding play. The coach was Knute Rockne. Schrader captained the freshman baseball team and was all-conference on the varsity. In his senior year, Coe played fourteen games. Schrader pitched thirteen of those games and batted .380. His basketball play earned him two letters and he was named to the second all-conference team. Following graduation from Coe, Schrader coached high school football, basketball, baseball, track, and golf. In fourteen of those fifteen years, he had winning teams in football and basketball. In basketball, his teams won 11 championships. He played professional baseball for several years and refereed high school and college football and basketball for 31 years. Wendall and his wife, Ann, also a Coe graduate, have received national recognition for the quality of Camp Nicolet for Girls, which they owned and operated for many years at Eagle River, Wisconsin. They are leaders in their chosen field, world travelers, and recognized for their devotion to the best in athletics, camping, and recreation. Wendall H. Schrader stands with the foremost in the Coe athletic tradition. He adds luster to the college Athletic Hall of Fame.
