"A coach's dream," according to Legendary Coe baseball coach Harold "Pinky" Primrose, West Union native Tom Marshall earned distinction in two sports during his Coe College career. As a football player, he owns most single-season and career-receiving records. Though he played in an era when passing was less common, Tom holds single-season records for most receptions (52), yards (1,115), and touchdowns (12). He's also the career leader in receptions (138), yards (2,792), and touchdowns (21). A four-year letter winner, three-year starter and two-time Kohawk MVP, he received All-Conference honors twice. As a left-handed hitting centerfielder, he also received four letters in baseball, earning All-Conference honors twice and was named to the NCAA Division III District V All-Star team in 1981, batting .413 and committing just one fielding error. Tom was captain and MVP of Coe's 1982 team, when he batted .376 and had a .958 fielding average. Tom briefly assisted in coaching the Jefferson High School junior varsity football team after graduating from Coe in 1983 and officiated with the Cedar Rapids public school system and the local YMCA. He now owns Transwheel and Tire in Chicago, where he lives. For his outstanding contributions to Coe College athletics, we are privileged to welcome Tom Marshall to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
