As a student at Coe, Paul Wagner won seven of eight possible Midwest Conference Championships in indoor and outdoor track as a pole vaulter. As a coach at Coe, his track and field teams won eight Midwest Conference Championships. Paul Wagner was a four-year track and field letter winner at Coe. He was an NCAA outdoor national track and field meet qualifier in both his sophomore and senior years. He finished just one place shy of earning All-American Honors his senior year. He set an outdoor track and field school and conference record of 14'1" his sophomore year. Then he broke his own record with a vault of 14'6" as a senior. Paul was also a four-year letter-winner on Coe's football team. A running back, he was named First Team All-Midwest Conference his senior year. That year, he was also named by his teammates as Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Offensive Player. Paul Wagner began his coaching career in Clarence-Lowden, Iowa where he was teacher, football coach, and track and field coach. His football team posted a 17-9 record and his track and field team won a conference title. Paul is now in his 13th year as Coe's head women's track and field coach and his 12th year as men's track and field coach. He has also been serving as an assistant football coach. At Coe he has coached fifty-one All-Americans including four National Champions. His women's teams have won three indoor track titles and three outdoor championships. His men's teams have won two indoor championships. Ten times his track and field teams have placed second in the conference Paul Wagner has been an outstanding student-athlete, a successful high school coach, and a commendable Coe College coach. His career has merited this induction into the Kohawk Athletic Hall of Fame.
