Long before Lorri Eberhard Zeller ’84 was the mother of three NBA players, she was a star athlete in her own right, excelling in softball and basketball for the Kohawks. A three-year letterwinner in both sports, she was a key member of five conference championship teams during her Coe career.
Lorri was an outfielder for three Midwest Conference championship softball teams under Head Coach Bob Thurness. She set the school record with 32 runs scored her senior year, when she was team captain, won the Best Offensive Player Award and was named to the all-conference team. Her career totals -- .302 batting average, 49 RBIs, 48 runs scored, 59 hits, six doubles, three triples and three home runs – remain among the best in program history and all were among the top five at the time.
A power forward for Head Coach Charlene Cline, Lorri helped Coe to back-to-back Midwest Conference basketball championships her sophomore and junior years. She was named team MVP and best defensive player before securing South Division all-conference honors her senior season. With 433 career rebounds, her 6.8 rebound per game average ranks fifth in school history.
A 20-year resident of Washington, Indiana, Lorri resigned from coaching and her position in the high school athletics office in 2012 to join her family’s non-profit business, DistinXion, which operates basketball and cheerleading camps that also teach character. Lorri and her husband, Steve, also make speaking engagements and will soon release their first book on parenting.
