Alan Rowe was a standout athlete and six-time letterwinner in football and baseball at Coe College. Rowe led the football team in rushing yardage and scoring all three years of his varsity career. While leading the team in rushing and scoring, he was named to the All-Midwest Conference team his junior and senior years. He was also named team MVP his junior season. After being named a co-captain, he finished second in the Midwest Conference in scoring and was named a Sigma Nu All-American. While he couldn't get enough of football coach Glenn Drahn, he also played baseball for him for two seasons. Rowe was named to the All-Midwest Conference team during the 1967 season as he helped the Kohawks to a 10-8 record, their first winning season since 1954. "Alan was a complete fullback. He could block, catch, and run with the best of them. He was a perfect complement to the backfield of Bill Wimling, Dave Wright, and Dick Smith. The four of them all worked well together," said coach Glenn Drahn. Rowe went on to play in the Omaha Semi-Pro League where he was the All-American League Batting champion. In 1986 Rowe was named the Iowa Principal of the Year while working at the nationally recognized Linn-Mar High School in Marion. His name is also etched in the Linn-Mar Wall of Fame and he was the recipient of the Visionary Youth Leadership Award presented by the National Council on Youth Leadership. Currently, Alan serves as the executive director of institutional effectiveness and organizational development at Kirkwood Community College. For his generous contributions to Coe College and the athletic program, we are privileged to welcome Alan Rowe to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
