Ray Zirpolo, Class of 1967, ran as well indoors as he did outdoors. Three times he won the 60-yard dash at the Midwest Conference indoor meet. At an NCAA indoor race in Detroit, he swept the 40, 60, and 440 yard dashes. When spring came and the track men performed outdoors, this fine runner from New Jersey became the chief point winner for Coe track teams in 1965, 1966, and 1967. As a sophomore Ray Zirpolo was Midwest Conference champion in the 100 and 220-yard races. He won second place in these dashes as a junior and senior. He posted dash wins in such challenging meets as the Redman Relays, Monmouth Relays, and Beloit Relays. He qualified to race in both the Drake Relays and the NCAA regionals. Four times Ray Zirpolo dashed to school records. Honors came his way in tribute to his winning performances. He won the coveted Marvin Lamb Award three times. Coe's Clem Wilson Award was given to him twice. All-state and All-conference mentions were granted to Ray Zirpolo in three consecutive years. In recognition of outstanding track performances and contributions to Coe indoor and outdoor track teams, it is appropriate that Ray Zirpolo be inducted into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame. On this occasion, we take pleasure in welcoming him to this select circle of outstanding Coe athletes.
