Hall of Fame
Kenneth B. Mullen received his degree from Coe magna cum laude in mathematics. He was president of the Interfraternity Council and of Sachem, the men's honorary fraternity. He was active in intramurals and stayed up late at night staffing the college's computer center for students doing homework. He was named Outstanding Senior Man. Given that kind of schedule, one wonders how Ken found time to letter four years in track and two years in cross-country and be captain of both of those teams. These were the years when Coe won eight consecutive Midwest Conference track titles. For four years Ken was on the Conference champion mile relay team which set the Coe school record at the national NCAA Division III meet. Ken qualified for the NCAA Division III national meet three times, running in the 400, 800 and mile relay. As a junior he won his heat in the national 800, breaking the NCAA Division III record. In the finals he lowered the record again but placed second by an eyelash. As a sophomore Ken received the Most Improved Award. As a junior he received the Harris Lamb Award for the most enthusiastic team spirit. As a senior he won the Clem Wilson Award, the equivalent of Coe's Most Valuable Track Man, as well as the LeClere Award, which is the Midwest Conference's Award to the athlete with the highest grade point average who has lettered in two sports. He also received a prestigious NCAA graduate school scholarship. He received his Master of Science degree in mathematics and works at American College Testing, where he is responsible for the accuracy of the ACT mathematics test. As a four-time Conference champion and an NCAA Division III All-American, Kenneth Mullen has won his way into the Kohawk Athletic Hall of Fame.
