The Ty Cobb of Coe baseball, Joel Holst was a career 403 hitter for the Kohawks - the only player in school history to top .4UU. A three-year starter and two-year captain for the Co baseball team, he was a three time all-Midwest Conference selection. He was team MVP his senior season, when he led Coe in at-bats, hits, singles, triples, stolen bases, walks, on-base percentage and batting average. Aiso a three-vear starter for Kohawk football. Holst won the Midwest Conference's Ror Le Clare Award for the two-sport student-athlete with the highest grade point average during his junior year. Holst obtained his master's in health and physical education at Northwest Missouri State. He began his baseball coaching career at West Delaware High School. where he won a WaMac Conference title and compiled a record of 100-50 from 1986-89. He was 100-80 in five years at Loras College, guiding the Duhawks to their first national ranking in school history, After joining Warburg College in 1996, Holst guided the Knights to 12 straight Iowa Conference championships from 1997 through 2008. Ten of his Wartburg teams have qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament. Holst's 2000 squad won the school's first regional championship and went on to compete in the NCAA Division Ill College World Series to finish the season ranked sixth in the nation. The 2005 team also won a regional championship and finished fourth in the College World Series with a final national ranking of fifth. The 28th member of NCAA Division III's 500-win club, Holst has also been named the Iowa Confetence Coach of the Year eight times and was named the Four-year College Coach of the Year in lowa six times. He was named Central Region Collegiate Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2005. Holst and his wife, Debbie, live in Waverly with their two sons.
