David Etienne, Class of 1958, began making marks in the basketball recordbook as a team member at Coe. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 1955 Coe team and was named All-Conference in 1955 and 1956, a year when the Kohawks played at the NAIA National Basketball Tournament in Kansas City. Dave has been a basketball coach at Coe College, Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois, Glenbrook High School in Glenview, Illinois, and Central City and Maquoketa Valley in Iowa. For the past 12 years he has been head basketball coach at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. Dave has coached six conference champions and 11 of his players were named to All-State teams. Three of his players were named high school All-Americans. Four times he has taken a team to the state tournament. Dave Etienne has served as president and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association. He was one of the coaches of the Iowa All-Star game in 1981. Without question, the highlight of his 24 years as a basketball coach came in 1984 when the Kennedy Cougars won the Iowa Class 3A State Champi- onship. That state title was won with one of those relationships that is rare and memorable for a father, as his son, Jeff, was his assistant coach. In recognition of his achievements as a player and coach at Coe College, and to commemorate years of commitment to the coaching and teaching of talented young people, Coe College is proud to induct Dave Etienne into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
