A four-sport athlete in high school, Kristine Loftus passed up Northern Iowa to follow her father Bill's footsteps to Coe College, where she participated in volleyball, basketball and softball. Kristy's "work hard, play hard" policy started early in her athletic career. From advancing her high school teams to state tournaments and winning the Cedar Rapids Kennedy co-Athlete of the Year award in 1983-84, her talent never went unnoticed. Standing 5-foot-3, this 12-time letter winner made immeasurable imprints on the Coe athletic program. Kristy was named first-team All-Midwest Conference in volleyball and softball and second-team in basketball. As a freshman, Kristy helped the 16th nationally ranked volleyball team to the Midwest Conference title and the softball team to the national competition. Kristy held the title of co-captain for each of the three sports in which she participated. Kristy earned honors of most valuable defensive player in basketball her sophomore year and was voted team MVP in softball her junior year. "To really appreciate Kristy, you have to see her play," said former sports information director Alice Davidson. From MVP to 1987 Homecoming queen, Kristy became a hallmark student-athlete at Coe. A member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, Kristy was the recipient of the Molly Preuss Award for academic and athletic achievement her junior year. As a senior, Kristy was honored as the Tait Cummins-Outstanding Female Amateur Athlete of Eastern Iowa. After athletics at Coe, Kristy proceeded to coach softball and basketball at Cedar Rapids Washington and ninth-grade volleyball at Kennedy High School. After receiving a bachelor's degree in psychology and physical education, Kristy pursued her master's degree in the administration of fitness/wellness programs at the University of Iowa. Kristy resides in Phoenix, Ariz., where she has worked in the area of fitness and in the field of airline travel. She recently returned to school to pursue her teaching and coaching certification at Arizona State. For her outstanding contributions to Coe College athletics, we are privileged to welcome Kristine Loftus to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
