A native of Greeley, Iowa, and a 1976 graduate of West Delaware High School, Dodie Gull Leners set records in nearly all of the distance runs while a member of the Coe cross-country, indoor, and outdoor track teams. In her junior and senior years, she set numerous records, including those in 1500, 3000, 5000, and 3200-meter relay, the one mile, and the two mile. Her 5000-meter record still stands as the fastest by any woman in Coe history. These were the days before the NCAA supervised women's sports and Dodie qualified for the AIAW Region Six in 1500, 3000, 5000, and 3200-meter relay. She was named Most Valuable Woman on the track team in both her junior and senior years and was a co-captain in both years. In her senior year, she was honored as Homecoming Queen. Gull has not rested on her laurels and has continued to run, entering and winning many races since her graduation. A 1985 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, she served as a Captain in the Air Force. She currently has a dental practice in Clinton, Iowa with her husband, David. They are the parents of four children. An active volunteer in her community, she has served as a member of the Cancer Society Board, the De Witt Junior Women's Club, and The American Association of University Women. It is with great pleasure that we induct Dodie Gull Leners into the Kohawk Athletic Hall of Fame.
