One of the most prolific free throw shooters in school history – with 279 made on 393 attempts – Chris Weih ’97 graduated with 984 points scored, which ranked 11th at the time in just two seasons for the Kohawks. His 409 rebounds was 13th in school history at the end of his Kohawk basketball career. He scored more than 30 points in six games and led the Kohawks in scoring in 41 of the 44 games he played.
A fifth-team All-American and team MVP his senior year, Chris shared player of the year honors in the Midwest Conference South Division. He set school records that season with 544 points scored, 24.7 points per game, 156 free throws made and 216 free throws attempted. He scored 44 points against Mount Mercy for second most points scored in school history. His seven made 3-pointers in that game is tied for the fifth most in school history.
He was also team MVP his junior year, when he was a first-team All-Midwest Conference South Division honoree. He averaged 20 points and 9.3 rebounds per game that season. He pulled down 17 rebounds against Grinnell, the ninth most in school history and the most by any Kohawk not named Mark Kleppe.
After graduating from Coe with a degree in elementary education, Chris started his teaching and coaching career in Durant. While teaching at Jordan Creek Elementary in West Des Moines, Chris earned his master’s in education administration from Viterbo University. Chris began a new adventure in 2013, entering the business world in a sales position with SumTotal Systems, an industry leading human resource software provider.
