A first-place individual finish at 880 yards and a first-place team finish at the 1975 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track Championships highlighted the athletic career of Ed Trimble. But that's just part of the story. Over the course of his four years at Coe, Ed was part of eight Midwest Conference champion track teams - four indoor and four outdoor. As a freshman, Ed helped Coe to its first conference championship in 30 years, running a leg of the two-mile relay and the distance medley. Both relay squads set school records, indoors and out. In 1973, he was part of the conference champion, school-record-setting indoor sprint medley team and received the Captain Marvin Lamb Trophy. In 1974, he won the Captain's Award and set a school record in the indoor 660-yard run. Ed's 880 victory his senior year broke an 81-year-old school record. He was also a conference champion as part of the mile relay team and helped set another school record in the distance medley. He received the Captain's Award and the Clem Wilson Trophy, an award for outstanding distance runner named in honor of a former Kohawk who competed in the Olympics. Ed was co-Outstanding Runner of the 1972 cross country team, posting a team-best time of 21:25 for four miles. Serving as team captain his senior year, Ed set a new Coe record of 27:41 in 1974 for the five-mile course at Ellis Park. He showed his leadership and sportsmanship by slowing his finishing kick long enough for me to finish in a tie with him, thus allowing both of us to have the record and share first place in the event. He was an all-conference selection in 1974, when Coe finished second in the Midwest Conference for the first time in over three decades. Ed is a senior operations analyst for Emergent Informational Technologies. He retired as Lt. Col. in the Air Force. As a pilot, he flew combat missions in the Balkans before retiring as a Pentagon employee. He received his MBA from Troy State in 1985. He received a Meritorious Service Medal in 1986. For his outstanding contributions to Kohawk athletics, I am honored to present my teammate, Ed Trimble, for induction into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame.
