When tales are told at Coe alumni reunions about fullbacks who just couldn't be stopped, John Rosenberg's name is always mentioned. Game after game he ground out the yardage that made him the Midwest Conference rushing leader, and he still holds the Coe scoring record of 93 points in a season. Like so many Coe athletic greats, Rosenberg was a native of Cedar Rapids. In addition to his three football letters, he won All-Midwest Conference honors on the undefeated championship team of 1955 and he captained the squad in 1956. While many remember John's exploits on the football field, relatively few will recall his other significant claim to athletic fame. He won Coe's first individual wrestling championship in the Midwest Conference in the 177-pound class. He rounded out his sports at Coe with a baseball letter won playing first base on a conference championship team in 1955. John Rosenberg has continued his interest in sports, serving as past president and a director of the Cedar Rapids Sports Club and also as president of Coe's "C" Club.
