A five-time All-American and 12-time conference champion, Marie Strilich Anderson was a standout on the Coe swimming team from day one. She broke seven individual school records and swam on five record setting relay teams as a freshman, when she was named team MVP and qualified for nationals. In 1986 she helped the Kohawks to their second straight Midwest Conference championship and an 11th place finish at nationals. A Cedar Rapids native who prepped at Washington High School, Marie won hive events at the Midwest Conference Championships, including a record-setting performance in the 50-yard freestyle. Marie teamed with Brigette Bergemann, Jennifer Gaard and Jamie Whittemore to finish third in the nation in the 1986 400-yard freestyle relay. The same foursome finished sixth in both the 200- and 800-yard freestyle relays. Coach Dennis Vokolek called those four and Lynn Pumfrey his national champions. Three of Marie's Coe relay team records - 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyles - remain unbroken. Her name still appears in the top tour rankings tor threeindividual events - the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Marie is a credit analyst at Van Meter Industrial in Cedar Rapids. She and her Kohawk husband, ohn, live in Swisher with their son. For her outstanding contributions to Kohawk athletics, I am honored to present my daughter, Marie Strilich Anderson, for induction into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame
