J. Harold (Dutch) Kremers, Class of 1920, became the starting center on the 1917 Coe College football team because of his fight and hard work. Although recognized as a talented offensive player, he also earned praise for his abilities as a linebacker. Kremers earned three letters in football and both All-Conference and All-State honors.
One of the characteristics Kremers possessed was excellent physical conditioning. This enabled him to play the whole game in an era when one played both offense and defense.
Although his contributions to the football program were substantial, some of his fans saved their praise for his efforts with the Coe Basketball team. His play at guard led to All-State and All-Conference awards. His skills, and the ever obvious physical conditioning, made him the mainstay of the varsity team.
His fellow athletes recognized his leadership qualities by electing him president of the Clan of C.
After graduation Dutch Kremers did some athletic officiating in addition to using the qualities he displayed in competing for Coe in the business world.
Kremers was vice president for personnel with the Northwestern Bell Telephone company, Omaha, Nebraska, at the time of his death in 1962.
J. Harold (Dutch) Kremers was posthumously inducted into the Coe Athletic Hall of Fame.
