Hall of Fame
Even at Division III Coe College, rare is the player who starts all four years for his college basketball team, particularly at point guard. Rarer still is the player who never misses a game in his collegiate career. Meet Eric Johnson - fierce competitor, talented player, and an outstanding teammate. The hardest worker on the team, he was always one of the first to finish sprints or drills. A great leader, he ran the offense and knew where everyone on the court was supposed to be. Eric graduated as Coe's second all-time leading scorer with 1,276 points and remains fourth on that list. His 189 three-point field goals record stood until 2001 and now ranks third in school history. But his greatest trait was unselfishness and his greatest skill was passing. He mastered the no-look pass and always put the ball where it needed to be. Fifteen years after graduating, he remains Coe's all-time assistant leader. His 637 assists are nearly 300 more than the next player on the list. He owns the top two records for assists per season and ranks first and third for assists in a game. As a junior, he led the nation with 9.9 assists per game, which helped earn him first-team all-conference honors. Also a great defender, Eric is Coe's career steals leader with 213, well ahead of second place. He also owns the top two spots for steals in a season. Eric and his wife, the former Amy Hummel, Coe class of '91, live in Minneapolis with their two-year-old daughter, Lauren. He works for General Electric and Amy is an executive with Target. For his outstanding contributions to Kohawk basketball, I am honored to present Eric Johnson for induction into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame.
