George Albert Patschke '28 George Albert Patschke, Class of 1928, won four letters as a football guard on teams coached by the legendary Moray Eby. He won mentions on several all-state and all-conference teams, but most memorably he was selected for Coach Eby's all-time honor team, the coach's choice of the best men who played for him at each position through his long career. Al Patschke's name will also stand in the Coe record book as the only Kohawk ever to score against Notre Dame. Late in the first half of the 1928 game against Knute Rockne's Fighting Irish, Patschke, always a formidable defender, recovered a Notre Dame fumble for a touchdown that gave Coe a 7-7 halftime tie. Mr. Patschke participated in track and field events at Coe and was a cadet officer in ROTC. After graduation from Coe he coached all sports in Waukon, Iowa, High School, where his teams were consistent winners. On the basis of nominations from the fellow athletes who knew him best, George Albert Patschke has been deemed deserving of membership in the Coe Athletic Hall of Fame and it is a pleasure, as one of his teammates, to present him for induction at this time.
