Joe B. Saccaro, Class of 1935, has pursued careers both in coaching and business. He has established an enviable record in just about every effort he has decided to pursue. As a student-athlete at Coe he won varsity letters in football and track and was freshman captain in both sports. He was a co-captain of the football team. He not only excelled in the athletic program at Coe, but found time to put forth the effort to become a much better-than-average student. Joe was selected to Sachem, the men's honor society, as well as the honor societies for both education and the classics. In 1935 he was elected the Honor Senior. Joe Saccaro coached at Sidney High School, at West Liberty High School, and at Jefferson High School. He was also the athletic director at Oskaloosa for two years while coaching football and track. As an official, he worked both football and basketball games in high school. He was a counselor in YMCA and Boy Scout activities. In 1944 he left coaching to build a new soybean processing plant in Marshalltown, Iowa, which he operated for 25 years. He also built the first Robo automatic car wash in Iowa. We recognize, through his election to the Kohawk Athletic Hall of Fame, his success in coaching, officiating, counseling and business. It is with pride that we welcome Joe B. Saccaro to the ranks for those designated for Coe's Athletic Hall of Fame.
