Hall of Fame
R. Wayne Fisher, Class of 1956, is a Cedar Rapids boy who played his high school sports at Roosevelt High School and then attended Coe College three years before transferring to the University of Iowa to complete engineering studies. Wayne was a memorable performer in both football and track, a member of the 1952 Midwest Conference championship team. He had the unusual distinction of winning first-team Midwest All-Conference honors at two positions. On offense, he was All-Conference first-team at end. On defense, he was All-Conference first team at halfback. In track, he was the Midwest Conference high-jump champion in 1952, and in 1953 he was the pole vault champ. When Wayne Fisher and his teammates search back into their book of memories, the 1952 Coe Homecoming game must always come to mind. In that contest, Wayne Fisher caught three touchdown passes as the Kohawks shut out arch-rival Cornell by a 21-0 score. Wayne has built a successful career in aerospace engineering and is now a senior research engineer with Rockwell International in California. Today, Wayne Fisher joins a long roster of Cedar Rapids high school graduates who remained in their own hometown and competed for Coe well enough to merit induction into the Coe Athletic Hall of Fame. We recognize his athletic accomplishments and his career accomplishments on this occasion as we designate him a Coe Hall of Famer.
