Chuck Meyer is one of the best track and field athletes in the history of Coe College. A three-time All-American in the triple jump, Chuck helped Coe capture a total of six Midwest Athletic Conference Championships in indoor and outdoor track and field from 1981-1984. A graduate of North Fayette High School in West Union, Chuck's talents were recognized long before he began his collegiate career. Chuck won the class A state long jump title in 1979 and 1980. Also in 1980, he took first place in the long jump at the Drake Relays with a leap of 23' 4", good for seventh all-time on Iowa's High School long jump list. While at Coe, Chuck captured an unprecedented 16 individual conference championships over four years. He was a perfect 8-for-8 in the triple jump and won five long jump titles. He qualified for the National Championships three times in the triple jump, where he placed fifth his freshman and sophomore seasons, and fourth in his senior season. To this day, Chuck holds two Coe records and two Midwest Conference records. He holds the indoor triple jump record at Coe with a distance of 47' 10" and the outdoor long jump record with a leap of 23' 7". He holds both indoor and outdoor triple jump records for the Midwest Conference: 48' 10" for outdoor and 46' 73/" for indoor. I remember Chuck as one heck of a hard worker, a self-starter and a fantastic competitor. He was so consistent, you could mark a first-place finish by his name and you knew he was going to get it. Even if he had an off day, he'd find some way to come up with the one jump needed to win the event. Following graduation, Chuck received his master's in biology from Colorado State University. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1985-1992 in satellite communications. Currently, Chuck is a microbiologist at Southern Nevada Water Authority and has done so since 1998. Chuck gave back to the sport he dominated as a competitor when he served as an assistant women's track coach at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1991 and 1992. He continues to teach as an adjunct biology instructor at the Community College of Southern Nevada. Tonight, for his outstanding contributions to Coe College athletics, we are privileged to welcome Chuck Meyer to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
