Ed McFalls was one of the brightest stars on the Coe basketball team in an era when Coe basketball shone on the national sports scene. He finished his four-year career as Coe's second-high, all-time scorer with 1,227 points. These were the days of the Jackson Five, with long winning streaks and two national tournament appearances. Under Coach Marcus Jackson the 1972-73 Kohawks won twenty-four consecutive games and claimed the Midwest Conference title and the NCAA Midwest Regional title. It was Ed McFalls' junior year and he was the scoring leader on a team whose only loss came in the NCAA Collegiate Division National tournament. Naturally, he was an all-conference first-team choice. In Ed McFalls' senior year Coe finished second as their 23-game conference win streak came to an end in a one-point loss. But our Captain Ed was unanimous choice for all-conference honors. On the national level he was named to the NCAA Regional Team, the NCAA All-American Third Team, and he won Honorable Mention on UPI's All-American squad. Some people call Ed McFalls "Easy Ed" because he made scoring points look so smooth and easy. Those of us who had the fun of playing with him appreciated that "Easy Ed" made it easy for us to look good too. In recognition of his basketball skill and his dedication to playing the game well, it is fitting that Ed McFalls be known as a Hall of Famer. It's a memorable honor for me to induct him into the Coe Athletic Hall of Fame.
