Hall of Fame
A first-team all-state volleyball player from Dubuque Wahlert High School, Sandy O’Hara Kaloupek ’87 was a four-year starter at setter and hitter for Coe. After winning the award for contributing the most to her team as a freshman, Kaloupek went on to collect three First-Team All-Midwest Conference honors and was twice elected team captain for the Kohawks.
Head Coach Gary Williams ’60 and Kaloupek came to Coe together and both left after the most successful era of Kohawk volleyball. The Kohawks were 109-28-3 during Kaloupek’s and Williams’ four years at Coe. Thirty match wins by that 1984 team were the most in program history until 2011. After taking second place in 1983 and 1984, Coe won the 1985 Midwest Conference championship, beating host Monmouth 15-6, 15-3 and 15-7 for the title. Kaloupek was the most valuable player on the team ranked as high as third in the nation.
Joining her husband, Tom Kaloupek ’86, to become Coe’s first Hall of Fame couple, Sandy is vice president at World Class Industries. They live in North Liberty, Iowa.
