Steve Schnoebelen was one of the greatest pitchers in Coe history. With a four-pitch arsenal full of movement, highlighted by an overpowering slider, he became one of the best pitchers in the nation. Schnoebelen, who prepped at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, is Coe's all-time leader in wins with 22, ERA with 3.14 and winning percentage with .758 (22-7). In his junior season, he led every pitcher in the nation with 10 victories. With just two losses, he held the second-best win-loss percentage in Division III. A four-year letter winner, Schnoebelen was twice named the team's Most Valuable Pitcher. He was named first-team all-Midwest Conference two times, first-team all-District V two times, and was an all-American candidate in both his junior and senior years. During those two seasons, Schnoebelen recorded a 17-5 record with a team-high 134 strikeouts. With the one-two punch of Schnoebelen and fellow 2003 Hall of Fame inductee Jude Milbert, Coe was ranked as high as sixth in the nation in 1979. Schnoebelen recorded a Coe-record six straight victories during that season and at one point, allowed just one earned run in 23 innings of work. Head Coach Rick Hartzell remembers Schnoebelen as, "a great competitor who wasn't afraid to take the ball to good teams. He had more qualities of a successful person than virtually anybody I've ever met at that age." Milbert added, “His work ethic was great for the team. When it came to getting the workouts in, he made sure you got them in. He always worked hard and was continuously pushing himself in the weight room.” Following graduation, Schnoebelen received his MBA in finance from the University of Akron. He went on to work at Price Waterhouse Coopers in Chicago for 17 years 10 of those years as a partner. In 2002, he became the regional vice president at Oracle. Tonight, for his outstanding contributions to Coe College athletics, we are privileged to welcome Steve Schnoebelen to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
